This past week, we spent several hours each day walking through some of the poorest and neediest communities in La Ceiba, Honduras. Each moment our eyes and hearts were exposed to things that the majority of people in the States only see in pictures. We couldn't take any pictures because we didn't want the people to feel we were encroaching on their privacy. Each day we returned home with sweaty backs, sunburns, aching legs, and dirty feet. Our hearts were breaking and yet, this is why we are here. This is our mission - to these people - to these communities.
Oh, how my heart cries out to these people... and yet, why? Incredibly, the people in these communities are content. Many have no running water, no electricity, one set of clothes, no shoes, no education, no church nearby... and yet they smile. What can I do to help them when in fact, they are content?
In truth, I need to learn to be more like them. I must be able to embrace peace in every situation... to be content in EVERY season of life. Tired. Dirty. Sick. Worn out. Hungry. Wanting new clothes. Content. Joyful. Overflowing.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." - Hebrews 13:5
